Description/Abstract:

My project is a solo show called 'Seeing Through the Ground', at the Grizedale Forest Visitor Centre Gallery in Cumbria and the following year at Danielle Arnaud Gallery in London. The exhibition includes new and existing work exploring the connections and conflicts between local industry and nature. The artwork will engage new audiences and critical partners by presenting an exhibition around the subject of materiality in relation to industry and nature. It will explore how materials are transformed through sculptural process as metaphor.

There will also be an outdoor sculpture sited in the forest engaging the public to reflect upon the natural habitat and the former industries around Grizedale Forest.’Checkpoint’ invites visitors to view the landscape through portals whilst seeing interior drawings that map objects present in the forest and from past industries. The work will give the viewer an engaging experience of art, whilst finding out about the forest and its history. The work aims to provide a space of stillness, slowing down visitors to reflect upon our use of natural resources and its impact on climate change.
